Three of last year's top basketball graduates, Valencia's Lonnie Jackson, Taft's Spencer Dinwiddie and Campbell Hall's Austin McBroom, are making an impact as freshmen at major Division I universities.
Jackson, now at Boston College, was selected Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week after scoring 26 points with seven 3-pointers Sunday in a 75-55 victory over Bryant. Jackson is averaging 7.1 points -- 15.7 over the past three games -- while shooting 48 percent from 3-point territory.
"It's definitely more difficult but it's still the same game I've played my whole life," Jackson said.
Dinwiddie, a starting guard for Colorado, is averaging 10 points and 4.1 rebounds, and he says it's a thrill to play before crowds as large as 11,297 in a Nov. 20 win at Western Michigan.
"It's definitely a great experience," Dinwiddie said.
McBroom, a starting guard for Central Michigan, is scoring 10.4 points with 2.7 assists.

In thirteen original essays, Going Coed investigates the reasons behind this important phenomenon, describes how institutions have dealt with the changes, and captures the experiences of women who attended these schools. |
